Volkswagen took e-mobility to the proverbial extreme with the all-electric ID.R in September. Romain Dumas, a Frenchman and Swiss by choice who lives in Arzier VD above Lake Geneva, completed the 10906-meter road on Mount Tianmen in China in 7'38.585 minutes.

This meant that Dumas was faster than anyone before him - although no one before him tried this as seriously as Volkswagen Motorsport.

The ride on the Tianmen Shan Big Gate Road had it all: 99 turns, 164 braking maneuvers, 218 km/h maximum speed.

As a result, the ID.R currently holds the track records at Pikes Peak (USA) and the Goodwood Festival of Speed (UK), the e-lap record on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife and now also the fastest time on Mount Tianmen in China.

Electric offensive in China
The ID.R, the sporty ambassador of the ID. product family, is powered by two electric motors with a system output of 500 kW (680 hp). The record drive on the spectacular mountain road to the mythical "Gate of Heaven" also supports Volkswagen's electric model offensive in China.

Volkswagen Motorsport proved the potential of an electric vehicle with its record-breaking drive in China. And did some great advertising on its own behalf.
