Scania: A new articulated truck for retirement
Many people are looking forward to the third stage of their lives and are making plans. Bruno Burgener is also looking forward to his retirement, but in a slightly different way. After passing his truck test at the age of 20, there was only one thing missing: his own truck - and it had to be a Scania! Over 30 years ago, in 1982, he dared to [...]
Over 30 years ago, in 1982, Bruno Burgener took the plunge into self-employment with a 3-year-old 141 Scania and wanted to take it out into the big wide world. He was able to take over a 6×2 with a Swedish trailing axle (double tires and not yet steerable) from the Haldemann company in Basel and from then on was his own boss. He only came to Switzerland to load or unload or to pick up fresh laundry. His customers entrusted him with more and more jobs, so that he was able to buy a second used Scania in the mid-1980s. This continued over the last few decades and Bruno Burgener's vehicle fleet grew to nine vehicles by 2011. When the cost pressure on international transportation became ever greater in 2011, Bruno Burgener decided to reduce his fleet from nine to four vehicles and from then on to operate half of them for the companies Iseppi AG and Fruchthof Münchenstein.
A new articulated truck for retirement
In June 2016, Bruno Burgener celebrates his 65th birthday in perfect health. But instead of traveling to faraway countries in a motorhome with his wife Erika, he gave himself an extraordinary retirement present. He purchased a new Scania R730 articulated truck combination. When asked why he wanted to do this for his birthday, he didn't have to think long: "If you've been in this business for over 40 years, you can't just turn the switch overnight and do nothing more." Bruno Burgener started out with a V8 141 Scania and he would like to close the circle again with a Scania V8 R730. In Bruno Christ from Scania Schweiz AG in Pratteln, he has found a partner and now friend who simply speaks the same language: "From the first conversation at home at the parlor table to delivery - simply perfect!" AutoSprintCH wishes you a safe journey.
