W Series: Without a Swiss woman in 2020 as well

FABIENNE HOLDS STANDAGE HIGH Eight new female riders will be selected for the 2020 W Series during tests in Spain. There will be no Swiss woman in the Tatuus Formula 3 race cars in 2020 either. For 2019, Marylin Niederhauser and Sharon Scolari fell through the rust.

Fourteen riders from twelve nations received an invitation from the W Series organization to be selected for 2020, and since there is no Swiss rider among them, it is clear that Switzerland will not be represented in the second season either.

Fabienne remains the only German speaker
At least the ASS-licensed Liechtensteiner Fabienne Wohlwend continues to hold up the pole. As a good sixth in the women's racing championship launched in 2019, she received one of the fixed twelve starting places for 2020.

The remaining eight cockpits will be allocated after three days of testing this week at the Almeria circuit in Spain. As no women from Germany or Austria were pre-selected either, Fabienne will be the only German-speaking driver in the field, as in 2019. The existing Tatuus F318s, whose chassis correspond to FIA Formula 3, will be used.

Fabienne Wohlwend from Ländle will probably have some strong competitors in 2020. She wants to race for the title.

Prominent participants
The most interesting new driver is Katharine Legge. The Briton has more experience than any of her colleagues. For example, the 39-year-old professional driver competed in the DTM from 2008 to 2010, previously in Champ Cars and then in IndyCars, took part in the Indy 500 twice and is currently driving a Honda Acura NSX GT3 quite strongly in the American sports car championship. Last January, Simona de Silvestro was one of her three teammates.

Denmark's Michelle Gatting, who drives a Ferrari 488 GT3 with Rahel Frey in the European Le Mans Series at Kessel Racing and finished on the podium with her twice, is also hoping to be selected for 2020 after the tests. Like many others, both were skeptical about the success of the W Series, but are now apparently convinced of its success. Whether it's right to give Legge another chance at her age remains to be seen....
