As the highlights from the first of the two International GT Open races at Silverstone show, the two blue Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO cars from Safenwil started from the front row of the grid. This laid the foundation for the second one-two of the season, especially since neither team was subject to a time handicap during the pit stops.
Second victory despite time penalty
This was then the case on Sunday due to the renewed success. Despite the handicap of 15 seconds, Albert Costa Balboa and Giacomo Altoè celebrated their fourth victory of the season in Sunday's race. Norbert Siedler and Mikael Grenier were once again on the podium in third place, although their Lambo also had to stop ten seconds longer than the competition at the driver change.
The title fight comes to a head
With the two wins at Silverstone, the Spaniard and the Italian are back at the top of the championship standings after ten rounds. They have a 17-point lead over their pursuers. In the team standings, Emil Frey Racing is in first place with a twelve-point lead. The last two events will be held in Barcelona on September 21/22 and in Monza on October 12/13.
First and foremost, the team boss is delighted with his squad's great performance.
Lorenz Frey-Hilti: "As in the past, Silverstone proved to be a good place for us. The entire team put in an outstanding performance. We didn't know where we'd stand at the beginning, because we'd never been able to drive the Lamborghini on this GP circuit before. However, the engineers quickly found the right setup with our drivers and we were already able to attack in qualifying. Now we're eager to see how the race in the title fight comes to a head in Barcelona."
