Sanctions
The 74 importers registered with the Federal Office of Energy are now being asked to pay.

So far, car importers have been hit the hardest in 2015, with penalties of 12.6 million francs. In recent years, however, importers have had a better and better handle on fleet management and have been able to push fines down to the 2.3 to 2.8 million franc range. But in 2018, they exploded. A whopping 31.1 million must now be paid by the 74 large importers registered with the Federal Office of Energy, as well as small importers with individual invoices.

FCA Switzerland and Mercedes at the top
FCA Switzerland SA, importer of Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Jeep and Lancia, has been hit particularly hard. The Italians have to shell out almost 11.4 million Swiss francs for a CO2 target deviation of 9.7 g/km.
Mercedes-Benz Schweiz AG, importer of Mercedes-Benz, Smart and Maybach, is not faring much better. The deviation of 7.3 g/km compared to the target set by the federal government is costing over 10.5 million Swiss francs.

No influence on the prices of new cars
Both importers assured the Tages-Anzeiger that they will not pass on the penalties to their customers. Serenella Artioli De Feo of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Switzerland: "New vehicles in Switzerland will not become more expensive because of the penalty." Patrick Bossart spokesman for Mercedes-Benz Schweiz AG, doubles down: "The payments have no impact on the pricing of new cars."
