A few weeks ago, BMW M Motorsport presented its future plans for customer sport and announced a new entry-level model for mass and club sport based on the BMW M2 Competition. On August 3, it will complete its first race on the Nordschleife as part of the VLN Endurance Championship Nürburgring.
BMW Motorsport Junior Beitske Visser (NL) and Jörg Weidinger (D) will be at the wheel. The test and development engineer at BMW M GmbH has been successful in hill climbs and circuit races at the Nürburgring for many years.
Test under race conditions
The vehicle entered by BMW Motorsport will contest the 6-hour race with a special camouflage livery. The aim of the mission is to subject the vehicle to a further endurance test under the extreme conditions of a race on the world's most demanding circuit and thus optimally prepare it for use in customer hands from the coming season. Delivery of the first vehicles to customers is scheduled for the second quarter of 2020.
With B-Permit
The race on the Nordschleife is the next step in the intensive test phase. In the weeks and months prior to this, the vehicle has already completed successful test runs in Miramas (F) and Portimão (P). There will be a Racing and a Clubsport version of the new entry-level model in order to appeal to even more potential amateur racing drivers than with the previous BMW M240i Racing model. For future use in the VLN, a version is planned for which participants will only need a B permit for the Nordschleife.
Also suitable for Switzerland
The focus during the development of the vehicle was on easy handling for everyone - with the highest technical quality and maximum safety. The racing car can be used in various motorsport disciplines - including Swiss slaloms and hill climbs.
