The weight-optimized high-performance variant of the Mégane R.S. Trophy beat the previous lap record on the Formula 1 track by five seconds during the R.S. Days.
Second record in just two months
The new best time is the second record for the vehicle in two months: On May 21, 2019, the sports car developed by Renault Sport experts also set a new best in its class on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife.
The Trophy-R is based on the Mégane R.S. Trophy and combines a revised chassis and modified aerodynamics with a weight reduction of around 130 kilograms. The same 1.8-liter turbo gasoline engine with 300 hp works under the hood.
Fast curves in the Ardennes
The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is considered one of the most demanding race tracks in the world. Because of its elevation changes and fast curves, the 7.004-kilometer circuit is also known as the Ardennes roller coaster. The Belgian Grand Prix has been held there since 1950.
