Convincing performance at the world premiere in Goodwood: Scott Maxwell won the shootout in the supercar class with the Ford GT Mk II.
The Ford GT Mk II focuses on aerodynamic and engine improvements and shares key features with both the street-legal model and the GT race car. Many of its components have proven themselves in the world's most demanding endurance races, such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Daytona.
Free from the corset of regulations
The new super sports car is not intended for racing, but for track days, i.e. free driving without competition. The Ford GT Mk II was designed completely independently of the regulations and also has the same 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine. Without any restrictions, however, it is capable of generating 200 hp more power than the regulation-compliant racing version.
This makes the Mk II the most powerful variant of the Ford GT to date. It is also coupled with the same seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that is also installed in the Ford GT, but specially calibrated for the edition model.
Larry Holt, Chief Technical Officer at Multimatic: "The true performance of the GT has not yet been fully demonstrated. The production model is limited by the many global homologation requirements and the race version is restricted by various race series regulations. The Mk II now shows how the car would behave without any restrictions - its driving characteristics are suitably spectacular and fascinating."
Only for 45 solvent customers
The Mk II is built in Markham, in the Canadian province of Ontario, where the regular Ford GT is also manufactured. So its life begins at the main Ford GT plant before it is transferred to a special Multimatic Motorsports factory. There, thanks to numerous modifications, it transforms into the actual Ford GT Mk II.
It is available now, but is limited to just 45 units worldwide. Its starting price is $1.2 million.
