Four hours before GP sensation Max Verstappen, Matteo Cairoli stood at the top of the podium in Barcelona. Down in the crowd, Alex Fach and his staff cheered him on enthusiastically. The young Italian dominated qualifying and the half-hour race on the Spanish GP circuit almost at will with the Swiss car.
"What a perfect start to the season! I knew I had a great set-up, but you still have to win first," said an overjoyed Matteo Cairoli, also praising the team from Sattel. The Porsche-supported talent from Como immediately took the lead from pole position after the start and built up a small lead. In the meantime, Matteo Cairoli did not let himself be disturbed by a safety car phase and, after the race was released, drove confidently to victory. Two years ago, this was also achieved here by New Zealander Earl Bamber, who subsequently won the title with Fach Auto Tech and was promoted to works driver in 2015. Matteo Cairoli: "Just like him, I now want to win the Supercup." Alex Fach has no objections.

Both Swiss pilots in the top ten
With Jeffrey Schmidt (6th) and Philipp Frommenwiler (9th), the two Swiss drivers in the top-class field also finished in the top ten. While more was to be expected from Schmidt after seven race weekends since the start of the year, Philipp Frommenwiler can be satisfied with his start to the season: "If I hadn't braked slightly in the battle for seventh place and lost several positions as a result, there would have been more in it. I'm happy about my teammate Matteo's victory and I'm now working towards the next important race in Monaco to also exploit the potential of my car."
