Kart-SM: Fast Lena storms to the top
SM-AUFTAKT On the first weekend of the Karting Championship in Italy, there were surprises and new winners. Léna Bühler, who started from the very back of the field, won the most crowded class. The highly anticipated opening race of the autobau Swiss Kart Championship at the 7 Laghi circuit in Castelletto di Branduzzo near Parma (I) delivered what was expected. Exciting fights for positions, new types of winners and a few favorites who are under pressure after the first race increase the anticipation for the second race in Château Gaillard on May 19.
The only downer was that problems with the timekeeping led to delays in the schedule. Auto Sport Schweiz and GVI Timing, the company responsible for timekeeping, will work intensively on the problem until the next event.
Talent inherited
In the youngest Super Mini class, Enea Frey from Auenstein, who is just 10 years old, narrowly beat Cédric Malk and Elia Pappacena in the final heat. The son of former Le Mans driver Michel Frey was correspondingly delighted.
In the 13-strong field of the OK Junior, which has been upgraded thanks to the relegation of the X30 Junior, last year's X30 champion Elia Sperandio retained the upper hand. The karting talent from Mels had a lead of just under eight tenths over Sebastian Kraft in the final heat. Third place went to Alessio Strollo. The only girl in the field, Ekaterina Lüscher, finished a good sixth in her debut in this class.
Léna wins from the very back
Léna Bühler from Yverdon came out on top in the X30 Challenge Switzerland, which had the strongest field of 22 drivers. She relegated Savio Moccia and Rafael Aguiar to second place - and that after a disqualification in the qualifying heats because the airbox was from 2018. So she had to roll up the field from the back.
Strong return of Jasin Ferati
In the OC Senior, after last year's superiority of Patrick Näscher (17 victories in 18 races), everything pointed to another success for the Liechtenstein native. But the civil engineering student from Nendeln had to settle for third place in the final race.
Victory went to Jasin Ferati, who crossed the finish line with a clear lead over Miklas Born from Basel. The internationally steeled Winterthur native expressed relief afterwards.
Jasin Ferati: "Three wins from pole position on my comeback in the Swiss Kart Championship is something to be proud of. It's a good feeling to be back on top of the podium."
Disqualified KZ2 winner
The reigning champion also had to admit defeat in KZ2, the fastest category with the switch karts. First André Reinhard was slowed down by a technical problem, and then an opponent in the final heat rudely pushed him away. Victory went to Dominik Weibel, but the Frauenfelder was subsequently disqualified for being underweight.
Mike Müller thus achieved his first final success in KZ2. Small consolation for the Weibel family: Dominik's younger brother Samuel moved up to second place after the disqualification. Third place went to Quentin Voria.
The only lady in the field had no luck. Isabelle von Lerber retired in the final run in second place due to a material defect with engine damage.
