For four days on the Almeria circuit in Spain, the young ladies had to prove their skills at the wheel of the Tatuus F-318 used in the W Series. In total, they completed around 3,000 laps. A renowned jury, including ex-GP winner David Coulthard, finally selected the 18 finalists from 28 candidates - and Fabienne Wohlwend is one of them as Liechtenstein.
Own expectations fulfilled
However, this is not really a surprise either for us or for her. After all, her palmarès so far includes race wins and the world championship title in the Ferrari Challenge.
Fabienne Wohlwend: "I didn't expect anything other than to be able to convince the jury of myself. However, it was a rigorous four days. Since ten of us didn't get a cockpit, it was a real competition We pushed each other to the limit."
It's not just about driving
The criteria include not only lap times at the wheel of the approximately 270-hp Formula 3 race car, but also fitness, technical understanding, general appearance and much more.
And how does the race car feel?
Fabienne Wohlwend: "Only at the beginning did I have a little trouble getting used to the downforce right away and gaining confidence. Then it went mega, I was always ahead with my times from the first day on."
Only German speaking
The 21-year-old from Schellenberg is the only German-speaking driver to have made it onto the grid. After testing at the Lausitzring in mid-April, the W Series will make its debut on the first weekend in May as part of the DTM at Hockenheim.
Fabienne admits that she is proud to be able to represent the Ländle in this race series.
Fabienne Wohlwend: "I'm really looking forward to it. I know the DTM environment from my time in the Audi TT Cup. I'm sure that many fans will be on site."
Start of the season in the Ferrari Challenge
Her concentration will now initially be on the Ferrari Challenge Europe. Wohlwend traveled directly from Almeria to Valencia, where she tested again on Thursday morning in the Ferrari 488 from Octane126.
Her first two races of the season are then coming up this weekend. The successful qualification for the W Series will undoubtedly spur them on.
