Motorsport: Jörg and Jenzer ahead of GP3 season opener
Kevin Jörg will contest his first two races in the GP3 series this weekend in Spain. His best time in the last test drives bodes well. There is no longer a Swiss driver at Jenzer Motorsport. Test drives are one thing, but races are quite another. When it comes to the allocation of grid positions and the battles for position, many a junior has had his nerves shaken. Jean-Paul Driot, the owner and boss of DAMS, where the garage owner's son from Lake Walen drives, knows this from his own experience and therefore doesn't think much of advance praise. "The fact that Kevin achieved the last best time of the day in Barcelona speaks for him as a driver, but also for us as a team. Together we have learned a lot, because GP3 is also new territory for DAMS. For me, however, it's only the races that count, when Kevin has to deliver results under pressure," the Frenchman dampened overly high expectations in an interview with AutoSprintCH.
Jörg himself is confident going into the new adventure, which begins this weekend in the run-up to the Spanish GP at the same venue. New third-generation Dallara chassis (2016 to 2019) with 3.4-liter V6 engines (400 hp) will be used. "I consider myself well prepared. My first goal is to finish both rounds in order to learn as much as possible," says Kevin Jörg, deliberately keeping a low profile.
No Swiss driver at Jenzer Motorsport
Andreas Jenzer would also have liked to sign him, especially since Kevin Jörg already tested with him in GP3 a year and a half ago. In the meantime, the team boss from Lys has been burned by the fact that Ralph Boschung and his sponsors have also opted for another team. The driver from Vaud drove with Jenzer in GP3 in 2015, tested with him in the spring and then signed with another team (Koiranen GP) at short notice. Thus - for the first time since the introduction of GP3 in 2010 - only foreigners are driving for Jenzer Motorsport, of whom the Colombian Oscar Tunjo impressed with his lap record on the first day of testing in Barcelona.
