Geneva 2019: Ten days again in 2020
KLARTEXT Several times it has been published in Swiss media that the Geneva Motor Show will last only five days from 2020. Not true. You can still find out about the current model year at Palexpo until Sunday, March 17. A look back after the first days of the show reveals a whole series of noteworthy aspects that speak for the exhibition in Geneva.
Neutral floor offers advantages
That the manufacturers of the home market dominate at a car show is actually no wonder. And so the Detroit show is dominated by the American Big Three (Chrysler, Ford and General Motors), while at the Frankfurt IAA the German manufacturers generally present their entire range.
That is precisely what is special about the Geneva Motor Show: on neutral Swiss soil, everyone is somehow the same. If there is one special feature, it's the large number of coachbuilders and designers. For car lovers, there is no more beautiful fair.
Opel and Hyundai think about comeback
Unfortunately, cost pressures meant that some manufacturers were also absent from Geneva this year: Among the mass brands, Ford, Opel and Hyundai were absent; the premium brands Jaguar, Land Rover, Volvo and DS Automobiles also refrained from appearing at the show. Opel and Hyundai will probably return in 2020.
Alternative drives take center stage
The trip to Geneva is worthwhile even without the missing brands, because the show is bursting with innovations - in all segments. Electromobility plays an important role here, in stark contrast to the auto show in Detroit, which less than two months ago was all about powerful combustion engines.
Last but not least: The organizers of the show in Geneva are also counting on you, dear reader. So let's go to Geneva and have fun at Palexpo.
