The new Aston Martin Vantage DTM completed its first test kilometers without any problems during the roll-out. Whether it is also fast remains to be seen.

After only 90 days of development and construction, the Aston Martin Vantage DTM from R-Motorsport in St. Gallen has successfully survived its baptism of fire. Paul Di Resta started the first installation lap of the brand-new DTM car at 3 p.m. on Monday at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit in southern Spain. After the planned six laps, the team determined that everything was in the green.

Joint test drives
From Tuesday this week, the new DTM team will participate in the joint test days with Audi and BMW. Nico Müller will also be testing there for Audi with the new Audi RS 5 DTM.

Paul di Resta: "The car felt good right from the start. The team did an unbelievably good job of getting such a nice and superbly drivable race car onto the track in such a short time."

Joint project
The development project was created and is being implemented under the operational management of Vynamic GmbH, the joint venture of AF Racing AG from Niederwil SG and HWA AG from Affalterbach in Germany.

In accordance with the specifications of the DTM regulations, the Aston Martin Vantage DTM had to be adapted in length, width and height compared with the masses of the production car. The Aston Martin Vantage DTM is therefore 4730 cm long, 1950 cm wide and 1280 cm high.

DTM record
Another challenge was the development and construction of the new four-cylinder turbocharged engine. The two-liter unit is installed as a front-mid engine behind the front axle.

Dr. Florian Kamelger, Team Principal of R-Motorsport: "The technical team has done a terrific job. It's a DTM record that the Aston Martin Vantage was brought onto the race track in less than 100 days. On top of that, the car is a visual eye-catcher. Paul's first driving impressions are promising. However, we still have a lot of work to do before the season starts at Hockenheim, which we are now tackling in the knowledge that the basis of the car is already right."
