VW: New Amarok with powerful six-cylinder engine
The VW Amarok as a premium pick-up in the B segment shows its potential thanks to a new 3-liter V6 engine of the latest generation. Now the driver has 225 hp and 550 Nm from 1500 rpm at his disposal on the road and off. The engine is designed for durability and robustness. A total of three power levels of the 3.0 [...] are available for the new Amarok.
The engine is designed for durability and robustness. A total of three output levels of the 3.0 l TDI are available for the new Amarok. These reach 163 hp/120 kW, 204 hp/150 kW or 224 hp/165 kW. They all meet the latest EU 6 emissions standard. The most powerful unit will be available first from September 2016.
Depending on the engine output, there are three different drive variants: as classic rear-wheel drive as well as 4MOTION, either with rear-wheel drive and selectable front axle in combination with manual transmission or with permanent all-wheel drive system and Torsen differential with the 8-speed automatic transmission. The combined fuel consumption of the most powerful Amarok is expected to be 7.6 L/100 km, with pollutant emissions of 199 g CO2/km as the best value. Servotronic steering helps ensure that the Amarok can be steered very precisely. New 17-inch brake discs on the front axle and 16-inch discs at the rear ensure optimum deceleration. The multiple award-winning multi-collision brake is also on board as standard.
A strong performance
A more athletic front end and a completely new instrument panel emphasize the strong appearance. Together with the new ergonomic seats, they add value to the vehicle, which is 5.25 m long and 2.23 m wide including the exterior mirrors. The sports bar of the introductory model, which is painted in body color and will be available in Europe under the name Amarok Aventura, visually extends the double cab to the rear. This also covers part of the 2.52 m2 cargo area in the cargo box. Various styling bars, covers, load compartment coatings or hardtops can still be selected for the cargo box. A Euro pallet still fits crosswise on the cargo area of the four-door model, and payloads of more than one ton are possible depending on the equipment variant. In some variants, the new Amarok will be able to tow up to 3.5 tons in the future.
