The agile Fiat Panda 0.9 8V Twinair Natural Power with natural gas engine comes out on top in the rating.

Volkswagen's e-Golf made it into first place, closely followed by the smaller VW e-Up. Third place went to the BMW i3s, fourth to the Smart Fortwo EQ, and fifth to the Hyundai Kona electric.

Five stars for Fiat Panda with natural gas
All five electric cars received five out of a possible five rating stars. The cleanest car with an internal combustion engine was the Fiat Panda 0.9 8V Twinair Natural Power with natural gas engine and also five stars. The worst performers in 2018, with only one star each, were the Chevrolet Camaro 6.2 V8 automatic, the Jeep Compass 1.4 Multiair 140, the Fiat 500X 1.4 Mult iAir Start&Stopp 4×2 DCT, the Kia Sorento 2.2 CRDi AWD automatic and the Ssangyong Rexton 2.2 Diesel 4WD automatic.

New diesels show exemplary values
Last year, the automobile club tested vehicles for the first time that already meet the Euro 6d-Temp emissions standard, which will be mandatory from September 2019. Although there are also exceptions here, most new diesels have exemplary pollutant values, the ADAC notes. However, hybrid and natural gas vehicles with the Euro 6b emissions standard also shone in the environmental rankings because they emit few pollutants and little climate-damaging CO2.
