Rahel Frey and team-mate Philip Geipel's second place was balm for the soul for a very specific reason: At the Sachsenring race the year before, the 30-year-old threw her Audi R8 LMS into the gravel while leading the race. The unfinished business with the traditional circuit in eastern Germany should therefore have been settled by now at the latest.
Starting from 14th on the grid, Rahel Frey quickly worked her way up the field of 32 cars. Her teammate Geipel then shone with a superb final phase and drove home second place. "To be on the podium again is great," said the motor sportswoman from Aedermannsdorf.
For the other Swiss, the weekend was rather difficult. Oschersleben winner Rolf Ineichen had to bury his hopes of a top finish after his teammate Christian Engelhart suffered a puncture. BMW driver Louis Delétraz failed to score points on his debut.
