Honda is launching its hybrid SUV in the new year at prices starting at 43,900 Swiss francs. A diesel is no longer available.
Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) is the name of the hybrid drive, which consists of four main components: The gasoline engine with two liters of displacement, which operates in the consumption-optimized Atkinson cycle. Two electric motors: one with 135 kW/184 hp, which provides propulsion, while the other acts as a generator. It is driven by the combustion engine and produces the electricity. The fourth component is a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of just over one kilowatt hour.
This allows the CR-V to move in three driving modes.
Activation through sport mode
The CR-V is surprisingly quiet and switches frequently between EV and hybrid mode, especially at low speeds. It takes some getting used to that the engine noise and acceleration process are not congruent - even though Honda tries to fool the driver's ear by using an Active Sound Control. Activating the Sport mode results in a noticeably more direct response of the gas pedal.
Successful sound insulation
The Japanese is a very comfortable cruiser - not only the appropriately tuned chassis and steering fit this, but also the noise insulation promises relaxed driving even over longer distances. The design and materials of the interior also contribute to this. The colors are very pleasant, the seats provide good support and everything is solidly finished. This positive impression is reinforced at the gas pump: According to the standard, the front-wheel drive car consumes 5.3 liters per 100 kilometers.
