With the new edition of the B-Class, Mercedes is giving its larger compact model a refreshing appearance. The first contact with the vehicle shows: The new design has been a success, and the vehicle looks much more dynamic thanks to its lower front end and modified proportions. The design has been brought into line - both outside and inside - with the A-Class, which was renewed in the spring.
As before, however, the practical benefits are also pleasing. The 4.42-meter-long five-door model has a wheelbase of 2.73 meters and offers correspondingly good interior space. The dynamic exterior design is also continued inside, and the body and styling have a youthful look. For example, there is the MBUX multimedia system with navigation, which has been further optimized with augmented reality and a touch pad. Hey Mercedes" communication with the vehicle is also possible, and the head-up display shows important information in the driver's direct field of vision on the windshield.
Of course, all the important driver assistance systems are available.
Comfort and dynamics on the road
The new B-Class not only looks more dynamic, it also drives accordingly. When it is launched on the market in February next year, two gasoline and three diesel engines will be on offer. The 1.3-liter gasoline engines produce 136 and 163 hp and are combined with a manual or 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. On the diesel side, there is a choice between the 1.5-liter (115 hp) and two power variants of the new 2-liter unit with 150 and 190 hp respectively, always in conjunction with the new 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. No need to worry about the exhaust gases: The engines are equipped with an additional SCR catalytic converter and already comply with the Euro 6d standard that will apply from 2020. Further drive variants will be added in the course of 2019. Of particular importance for Switzerland: all-wheel drive. Prices will be announced on December 3.
