On Saturday evening, the Laureus Foundation invited guests to a fundraising gala evening in the spirit of family and equal opportunities for Swiss children and young people. More than 650 invited guests from the worlds of business, politics and sport made their mark at the Laureus Charity Night in Hangar 9 in Dübendorf, and not just with their presence.
Mercedes-Benz 300 SL with cult status
After 14 open and silent auctions, the President of the Foundation Board, Rolf Theiler, together with the Managing Director, Evelyne Fankhauser, were able to symbolically accept a check for the total sum of 1,111,111 Swiss francs for Laureus' social sports projects for children and young people in Switzerland.
Mercedes-Benz endowed a legendary 300 SL from 1989 as an auction prize. This alone generated a contribution of 110,000 Swiss francs. The classic with cult status is known from various American TV series of the 80s such as "Dallas", "Miami Vice", and "The A-Team". Accordingly, to the soundtrack of the cult series Dallas, it was personally driven into the spotlight by Mercedes-Benz Switzerland CEO Marc Langenbrinck for the auction.
Money for social sports projects for young people
As co-founder and Global Partner of the Laureus Foundation Switzerland, Mercedes-Benz supports national and international sponsorship projects. For example, as part of the Swiss Mercedes program "10 FOR THE KIDS", 10 Swiss francs from the Mercedes-Benz dealer network go to the foundation for every new vehicle sold in Switzerland. In 2017, this amounted to more than 200,000 francs.
The money raised at the charity event also goes to Laureus projects that aim to use sport to sustainably alleviate the social problems of children and young people. One such project is the newly launched dance project "DanceQweenz", which was brought to life for the audience in the evening program by the brilliant show of the lively group of dancers.
