On November 12, the starting signal is given for particularly extensive and sustainable renovation work at the Nürburgring. In five different sections of the track, the asphalt belt of the world's unique Nordschleife will be renewed from the ground up.
In addition, the safety standard in the Green Hell will be further increased by extending the FIA catch fences. Over a total length of two and a half kilometers and with an investment volume of around four million euros, the measures are the most extensive at the famous race track in the Eifel region for more than 40 years.
Character remains
The full upgrade affects five sections of the line: Airfield, Schwedenkreuz, Kallenhard, Wehrseifen, Ex-Mühle and Hohe Acht. Asphalt and all underlying layers will be renewed.
Nürburgring project manager Alexander Schnobel: "Decisive for the subsequent paving of the track are lateral fixed points, such as the existing curbs, to the left and right of the current track. This will further improve the protection of the active drivers on the Nordschleife.
The construction work is scheduled to be completed on February 22. After that, the only thing standing in the way of the start of the 2019 season is the Eifel weather...
