Recall action
In rare cases, problems may arise with the escape of coolant in the exhaust gas recirculation model. As a precaution, BMW has initiated a worldwide recall

Vehicles with four- and six-cylinder diesel engines produced between August 2010 and August 2017 are affected. In Switzerland, 27,361 vehicles are affected. Vehicles from the 1-series, 2-series, 3-series, 4-series, 5-series, 6-series and 7-series as well as the X1, X2, X3, X4 and X6 will have to go to the workshop. The production periods affected vary depending on the model.

Only in extreme cases is there a fire hazard
A statement from the manufacturer reads, among other things: "On some vehicles, glycol coolant could leak from the EGR cooler. In combination with typical soot deposits and under the usually high temperatures in the EGR module, this can lead to glowing particles. In very rare cases, this results in melting in the intake manifold, which in extreme cases can lead to a fire."
After BMW initially announced a recall in South Korea in August, the action was extended to Europe a short time later. The workshops check the EGR module and replace the relevant components in the event of a fault. Affected owners in Switzerland will be informed in the next few days.
