The Bicar is a mixture of bicycle and car. The lightweight one-person mobile is compact and space-saving and designed for inner-city sharing. No fewer than eight Bicars are expected to fit in a conventional parking space. In collaboration with the ZHAW School of Engineering, an industrial designer and six engineers are working to complete the vehicle development. The vehicle is to meet the requirements for EU approval.
Less private car traffic in the city
The first bicars could be rolling through city centers as early as next year. Spin-off founders Adrian Burri and Hans-Jörg Dennig are also in contact with various cities in Switzerland and throughout Europe. These are all looking for environmentally friendly and space-saving mobility solutions. The bicars, which are available for spontaneous rental, could contribute to this.
Intermediate step between bicycle and scooter
The highlight of the compact, three-wheeled, electric mobile for one person is its tilting technology, which allows the rider to lean into curves like a motorcycle. The Bicar, which can reach speeds of up to 45 km/h, is designed as a kind of intermediate step between a bicycle and a scooter on the one hand - and a car on the other. It is designed to offer a stable stance and safe performance even in poor road conditions. The driver's cabin, which is equipped with a rain hood, offers the occupant protection from the cold and rain, so year-round use should be possible.
