Mountain race Hemberg: 2019 one week later

AFTER Whitsun The Hemberg hill climb will be held one week later than before in 2019, namely on June 15/16. The reason is the late date of Pentecost. Whitsun falls in 2019 on the second weekend of June. Since the shift from September to early summer, the Bergrennen Hemberg occupied this date. From June 14 to 16, 2019, the pretty village of Hemberg in Toggenburg will once again be taken over by racers and spectators.

Whitsun 2019 falls on the second weekend of June. Since the shift from September to early summer, the mountain race Hemberg occupied this date. The association Bergrennen Hemberg therefore organizes its race on 15/16 June 2019.

This also has the advantage that there will be no clash of dates with the Formula E race in Zurich, which is scheduled to take place next year at Whitsun. Not because of the spectators, but because both races have a great need for track marshals.

Perfect occasion last June
OC President Christian Schmid looks back on an enjoyable event last June, after 2017 had been disastrous.

Christian Schmid: "Hemberg 2018 will probably go down in history as one of the most beautiful and smoothest mountain races. The weather was sunny, the schedule fit to the minute and the whole team with all the helpers did a super job. Many thanks to all who did their part. It was just perfect and fun!"

The Säntis is not only intended to be a picturesque backdrop, but also a destination in the run-up to the Hemberg mountain race in 2019.

Proven concept
The OC wants to keep the proven concept and also focus on the Swiss Mountain Championship next year. The supporting program will therefore remain small and the idea of a Supermoto mountain race running in parallel will also be shelved for the time being.

The proven festival concept in the village is also to be maintained. The various bars and food stalls offer variety and a place for everyone to feel good.

Casual activities for drivers and families
On the other hand, the club wants to do even more for its drivers and their families by organizing informal events.

Christian Schmid: "In recent years, the number of those racers who arrive a few days earlier and enjoy a few days of vacation in the beautiful Neckertal has increased steadily. This has prompted us to offer something special next year. We would like to offer the racers and their teams a few nice days of vacation in Hemberg. Together with the tourist office, we would like to offer activities such as a bike tour, short or longer hikes, trips to the Säntis, visits to the Appenzeller Alpenbitter and so on."

So it's worth making a note of the date for the Hemberg hill climb from 14 to 16 June 2019.
