Pebble Beach: A futuristic silver arrow

EQ SILVER ARROWS Mercedes-Benz presented a futuristic show car at the Monterey Car Week in Pebble Beach (USA). The EQ Silver Arrow is reminiscent of the record-breaking Silver Arrow car from 1937. The model for the single-seater EQ Silver Arrow is the W 125 twelve-cylinder record-breaking car built by Mercedes-Benz in 1937 on the basis of the Grand Prix racing car. Rudolf Caracciola used it to reach 432.7 km/h on the A5 highway between Frankfurt and Darmstadt, calculated as an average of the outward and return journey.

This world speed record on public roads stood until November 2017.

Electric vehicle with 750 hp
The EQ Silver Arrow is designed as an electric vehicle. The output of the now silent Silver Arrow is 550 kW (750 hp).

The flat battery in the underbody has a usable capacity of approx. 80 kWh and enables a calculated range of more than 400 km according to WLTP. The battery is cooled with the help of side ventilation slots.

The show car, which is around 530 cm long and only one meter high, has a carbon fibre body structure. The driver's cockpit can be folded forward.

The multi-layer paint finish in Alubeam silver nestles over it like liquid metal. This is reminiscent of the historic silver arrows, which were stripped of their white paint for weight reasons.

Gordon Wagener explains the EQ Silver Arrow to invited guests in Pebble Beach.

168 aluminum spokes per wheel
The non-rotating hub covers and the partial wheel covers are a stylistic and innovative highlight. The 168 spokes per wheel are made of lightweight aluminum.

The EQ Silver Arrow is fitted with 255/25 R 24 (front) and 305/25 R 26 (rear) Pirelli slicks for traction and correspondingly fast acceleration.

Two extendable rear spoilers also act as air brakes by increasing the air resistance accordingly when deceleration is required.

The interior is dominated by traditional, high-quality materials such as genuine leather, brushed aluminum and solid walnut wood. The digital cockpit includes a curved panoramic screen with rear projection and a touchscreen integrated into the steering wheel.

Outlook for the future
The head designer at Daimler AG explains the thinking behind the design of this unique vehicle.

Gorden Wagener: "With its historic Silver Arrows, Mercedes-Benz was already a speed pioneer over 80 years ago, thanks in part to their streamlined shape. The EQ Silver Arrow show car builds on this. Designed for acceleration and driving pleasure, it embodies progressive luxury and provides a glimpse into the future of our design. The show car thus takes the design language of our new EQ product and technology brand to the extreme."
