It is the model that brings Porsche new customers: Four years ago, the Zuffenhausen-based company introduced the Macan, and it became the brand's best-seller right from the start. Porsche has sold 350,000 Macans to date, 97,000 of them last year alone.
Headlights equipped with LED technology as standard
Nevertheless, it's time for a model refresh, which is why the Macan will be launched in summer (in China) and fall (Europe including Switzerland) with a very eye-catching facelift, especially at the rear. The taillights now extend across the full width of the vehicle in a continuous three-dimensional LED strip. Design chief Michael Mauer: "This emphasizes the sporty proportions of the Macan even more." The changes to the front also serve to make the car look even wider. The grille is no longer vertically divided, and the daytime running lights and fog lights are now hidden in the wide black gills for engine and brake ventilation. Porsche uses LED technology as standard for the headlights.
Modern infotainment system with 11-inch screen
The Macan makes a clear leap into the modern age on the inside: The 7-inch display, which is already a bit out of date, is replaced by an 11-inch HD touchscreen that can be adapted to the driver's wishes via self-configured control tiles, as in the Cayenne and Panamera. The air vents have been revised and are now positioned below the central display.
At the start, three engines from 250 to 440 hp
In China, the Macan will start with the 2.0 T, the turbocharged four-cylinder producing 250 hp. In the fourth quarter at the market launch in Switzerland, the Macan S with a turbocharged 3.0 V6 and 354 hp and the Macan Turbo will also be available. A biturbo feeds combustion air to the 2.9-liter V6, which produces 440 hp.
Porsche is not yet quoting prices for the new Macan, but the price list is likely to continue to start at just under 80,000 Swiss francs. This means the Macan remains interesting for new customers of the brand. 70 percent of buyers purchase their first Porsche with the Macan.
