Pole position, fastest race lap and a flawless start-finish victory: Nick Yelloly was the man of the day in Hockenheim with the Porsche 991 GT3 Cup from Sattel SZ. With his second win of the season, the Briton reduced his gap to the top of the standings by five points.
The team boss was correspondingly relieved after the successful performance in front of many Swiss fans at the Motodrom in Hockenheim.
Alex Fach: "This win by Nick means so much to us. We have been badly shaken in recent weeks. The fact that we are now back on top and can celebrate this triumph together is great. I'd like to thank the whole team. Everyone did a brilliant job and contributed to this success."
The right timing
Yelloly laid the foundation for victory in qualifying. On a drying track, the Briton set the fastest lap time at the last second to secure pole position.
The 27-year-old's successful run continued in the race. At the start, the specialist converted his ideal starting position into a safe lead.
After 14 laps he crossed the finish line three seconds ahead of Italian Mattia Drudi. Third place went to championship leader Michael Ammermüller.
Nick Yelloly: "I was able to pull away a bit from my pursuers right after the start. My guys gave me a rocket today and every lap was fun."
Team-mate Jaap van Lagen showed an impressive recovery to the delight of the numerous Dutch fans. Starting from 12th on the grid, the 41-year-old worked his way up to eighth position with spirited maneuvers.
Christof Langer, for whom the joy of driving is paramount, impressed above all in qualifying. With 21st place on the grid, the 51-year-old amateur driver left ten competitors behind him. In the race, a spin cost him a good result in the ProAm standings.
Full steam ahead to Hungary
For Alex Fach and his crew, the victory acted as an injection of motivation for the second half of the season. This begins next weekend at the Hungarian GP.
Alex Fach: "We'll take this momentum with us to Budapest. As always, we won't rest on this success. The last few weeks have shown that we have to put everything on the line to keep our chances in the title fight alive."
