McLaren: Swiss like the power flounder
WHO WANTS IT HEAVILY McLaren is very exclusive with a planned 4000 units in 2018. The Swiss prefer the flagship 720S or the limited edition 675LT In 2010, the McLaren 12C founded the flagship Super Series range, currently represented by the 720S Coupé (from CHF 267,720). In 2010, the McLaren 12C founded the flagship Super Series range, currently represented by the 720S Coupé (from CHF 267,720). Incidentally, the number in the model name denotes the horsepower, which gives you an idea of what you are dealing with. But the flounder is not as wild as it looks.
Top speed is still 341 km/h
This is part of the tradition, because even the 600 hp 12C's ancestor was easy to drive, as we found out from chassis number 1. The mid-engine concept, the aerodynamics, the brute biturbo V8, the almost unnoticeable 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox and the electronic suspension tuned in three stages inspire as a well-balanced overall composition. While the performance of the 720S is almost obscene - 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and 0 to 300 km/h in around 20 seconds, top speed 341 km/h - the flat-twin dispenses with Italian engine screeching in terms of sound, which goes down particularly well with conservative Swiss customers.
Swiss buyers always want the best
The 720S has been available since May 2017 and by the end of June 2018, 67 units had been redeemed in Switzerland - 44 of them this year alone. By comparison, the smaller and more affordable 570S (Coupé from CHF 214,000 and Spider from CHF 236,500) was redeemed 47 times during this period. The entry-level 540C (194,500 francs) was even sold only ten times. Clearly, only the best is good enough for the Swiss. This is also demonstrated by the great popularity of the 675LT, a special version based on the predecessor of the 720S, the 650S, and limited to 500 Coupés and 500 Spiders. A total of 52 of these vehicles have been delivered to Switzerland since 2015 - that's five percent of planned production! Swiss collectors simply have style.
