TCR: Comini experiences a weekend to forget

TCR champion Stefano Comini experienced a difficult season opener with his new Leopard Racing team in Bahrain.

It already started with brake problems in qualifying: "The car was in a completely different configuration in qualifying than in free practice. And this setting was not good enough to get me into the top 10," explained Comini. On top of that, the Ticino native's best time in Q2 was cancelled due to multiple violations of the track boundary (white lines at the edge of the track).

In the first race, Comini tried to get everything out of the car. The remarkable duels with Kevin Gleason and Dusan Borkovic impressively underlined why Comini was champion in 2015. The duel with Mato Homola was particularly exciting. This offered fans everything that makes for exciting touring car racing: it was a tough but fair duel with a few touches. In the end, Comini decided the duel in his favor and scored six points in seventh place.

Failure in the second race
For the second race, the cards were reshuffled. At first, things seemed to be going in the right direction: Comini made up four places until he ran into Grachev. "In turn seven I felt a strong blow from Grachev, which sent me into the run-off zone. As a result, I lost two places. I didn't hesitate for long and chased after Grachev," explained Comini. And that visibly: Grachev did not let himself be impressed, it came to the collision. "After a great overtaking maneuver on the outside, I got a hit on the right rear wheel. The suspension broke and forced me to stop the race," Comini reported.

Despite some positive moments, Comini noted: "To fight with equal weapons, we still lack the necessary momentum at the exit of some corners. This is essential to take speed onto the straight. At the moment, compared to the competition, we are six km/h slower." Leopard Racing wants to sort out these problems with further testing before the next round in Portugal. The next race will be held on April 23 in Estoril, Portugal.
