The functional test took place on a racetrack in Zagreb (Croatia). The purpose was to test the interaction of the installed energy storage unit with the rest of the vehicle's components under real conditions.

Every electrical and electronic component, as well as the battery, cooling and drive systems, were tested individually beforehand. Due to the heat during the test days, the track conditions confirmed that the Cupra e-Racer is ready for the challenges under competition conditions.

The first rechargeable touring car
The battery of this all-electric touring car consists of 6072 round battery cells, roughly equivalent to a battery for 9000 cell phones. The data collected during these tests will be used to further adapt and optimize the systems in order to focus on maximizing the vehicle's power output in the next step.

This video offers a brief insight into the test drive:

From 2019, the Cupra e-Racer will be used in the E-TCR, which was launched specifically for electric touring cars.

Dr. Matthias Rabe, Seat Board Member for Research and Development: "With the Cupra e-Racer, we want to take racing to the next level. With it, we can show that we can successfully reinvent motorsport. We see motorsport as a cornerstone of Cupra and we are proud of the team that made this electric touring car possible."
