On Coniston Water in the Lake District in northern England, the Jaguar Vector V20E reached a speed of 142.573 km/h on June 14, valid for the new record. This the average from both directions is just under 20 km/h above the previous record from 2008.
The electric racing boat is a joint design by Jaguar Vector and Williams Advanced Engineering, Jaguar Racing's technology partner. Jaguar Vector co-founder and technical director Peter Dredge was at the helm.
Jaguar has been Vector's exclusive title partner since October 2017. Together, they now want to go on the hunt for more world and national records over the next 18 months.
The following video gives an impression of the successful record drive.
When will the first Formula E victory follow?
Panasonic Jaguar Racing has been competing electrically on asphalt in the FIA Formula E Championship since the end of 2016. Right at the start of only its second season, Mitch Evans scored third place in the Jaguar I-Type 2 in the second race in Hong Kong in December 2017.
At the Zurich E-Prix, the New Zealander gave the still young team its first pole position on June 10. In the race, Evans held the lead for 17 laps before the eventual winner Lucas di Grassi in the Audi e-tron FE04 took it from him.
Evans later forfeited a possible second podium place for Jaguar Racing due to a pit drive-through penalty. Evans crossed the finish line in eighth place.
At the end of the year, Jaguar is expanding its involvement in electric racing to include the I-Pace eTrophy. This will be the first one-make cup to run as part of the fifth cross-season Formula E season in 2018/19.
