Volvo: No problems with new emissions test
It's already possible for all Volvo models to meet the limits of the new emissions standard. This means that the brand meets legal requirements that will not become mandatory until 2019. The emission values of the Euro 6d-Temp standard are determined in the WLTP cycle (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure). The emissions values of the Euro 6d-Temp standard are determined using the WLTP cycle (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure). Compared with the previous New European Driving Cycle (NEDC), this provides more realistic consumption and emission values: the new test cycle is driven for longer and at higher speeds, takes into account the influence of optional equipment and includes additional driving situations. As before, the WLTP method involves measurement on the test bench.
Pollutant emissions under real driving conditions
In addition, pollutant emissions measured under real driving conditions (Real Driving Emissions) are also taken into account for Euro 6d-Temp. Euro 6d-Temp thus not only provides more realistic information on fuel consumption and pollutant emissions, but also verifies them in real road traffic.
New exhaust gas cleaning technologies show effect
At Volvo, the limits of the emissions standard are achieved, among other things, through the use of new exhaust gas cleaning technologies. For example, the gasoline direct-injection engines in the Volvo Drive-E engine family are equipped with a gasoline particulate filter. The diesel engines use selective catalytic reduction (SCR) to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOX) emissions. NOX emissions are reduced by up to 90 percent through the SCR process.
Volvo no longer present at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show
A real surprise for the industry is the Swedes' declaration that they will no longer exhibit at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Salon Director André Hefti: "We regret this decision and, in line with the general trend, will be looking to reorient the event."
