Supercup: Specialist team starts with podium
SECOND IN SPAIN Alex Fach's expectations were not set too high. At the Porsche Supercup opener in Barcelona, Jaap van Lagen finished second on the podium. The foundation was laid by Jaap van Lagen with a perfect start to the race that moved him up from fourth to second place. Pole setter Michael Ammermüller and his pursuer in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup from Fach Auto Tech seemed to pull away slightly from the rest of the field.
Unfortunately, the lead melted away due to two safety car phases after two and seven laps. As a result, the Dutchman closed in on Ammermüller, but in turn had to fend off his first attacker Dylan Perera.
Both drivers in the top 5
However, the veteran from the Schwyz team brought second place home in commanding fashion. Teammate Nick Yelloly was fourth after a good start, but had to settle for sixth place after constant duels. Due to a competitor's time penalty, he retroactively gained a position.
With his third place in the ProAm classification, Christof Langer contributed a good result, so that the high expectations of team boss Alex Fach were largely fulfilled.
Alex Fach: "We are happy about a successful start. Jaap gave everything and gave us our first podium, as did Christof in the ProAm class. Nick unfortunately experienced understeer on his car, so the race was not easy for him. We have to analyze what this was due to. Fifth place is still a good performance."
Anticipation for Monaco
Jaap van Lagen and Fach Auto Tech are now particularly looking forward to the next appearance on May 27 in Monaco, as always in the run-up to Formula 1: three years ago, the Dutchman, called up by Fach at the last minute as a reserve driver, drove to a surprising victory in the Principality.
After the successful opening race in Spain, there is theoretically nothing to be said against a repeat performance.
