Olivier Burri: First the father, then the son

The 39th Rallye Régionale du Florival with start and finish in Rouffach, Alsace, led four times on the 10 km long Col du Firstplan on Saturday afternoon and finally in the evening at nightfall.

Olivier Burri competed with start number 1 on the Skoda Fabia R5 with which he had shone at the Rally Monte Carlo in January. Christophe Cler, who is otherwise an ouvreur of Burri, sat in the co-driver's seat this time.

From the start, Frenchman Paul Reutter took command in a Porsche 997 GT3 RS. Burri was only able to keep the GT driver behind him in the second of the four passages.

At the finish after a winning time of 22:22 minutes, the man from the Jura was 26 seconds behind. Burri/Cler thus won Group R5 ahead of a local team with a Peugeot 208 T16 R5.

Return of Michäel Burri
Steeves Schneeberger, who had finished a surprising second in the SM opener Pays du Gier with the Ford Fiesta R5 acquired from Michael Burri, missed his chance for the podium with a spin on the first stage. In 29th place, he already lost more than 46 seconds to the front runners as a result.

With two fourth-best times and a sixth, he improved to eighth place, 1:33 behind Reutter. The co-driver was Andersson Levratti, who otherwise navigates Olivier Burri.

At the Critérium Jurassien, the Frenchman will do so alongside Michael Burri. Olivier's son announced a break from rallying for financial and family reasons, but is now returning to the cockpit for the home race on April 13/14.

At the Critérium Jurassien, Burri Jr. will pilot Father's Skoda Fabia R5. He showed himself to be in good shape during test drives on the Rallye du Florival track, as a video he posted on Facebook shows:

After Sébastien Carron's withdrawal, the 2017 SM bronze medalist thus becomes the biggest opponent of Gier winner and table leader Ivan Ballinari.
