Jasmin Preisig: Back with new Opel Astra
COMEBACK AFTER ACCIDENT Around six months after her serious accident in Hockenheim, Jasmin Preisig returned to action in a new Opel Astra TCR at the ADAC TCR Germany test drives. After a moral low, she is fully motivated again. With an unfair maneuver, Dutchman Jaap van Lagen (who will compete in 2018 at Fach Auto [...]
With an unfair maneuver, Dutchman Jaap van Lagen (who will be driving for Fach Auto Tech in the Supercup in 2018) violently pushed his Swiss rival into the guardrails at the ADAC TCR Germany finale in Hockenheim. Jasmin Preisig required medical attention afterwards, her Opel Astra was nothing but scrap metal.
Thoughts on the resignation
During the first and painful weeks due to her vertebral injury, the thought of retiring from motor racing crossed her mind, for health and financial reasons. Now the 25-year-old from Appenzell is happy to have been back at the official test days in Oschersleben at the beginning of this week.
She was able to trade in the wreck to Kissling Motorsport, which manufactures the TCR touring cars under factory contract. The new Opel Astra TCR, as of 2018, belongs in turn to dad Walter Preisig, a busy garage owner in Schwellbrunn AR. However, the car is no longer used by Lubner Motorsport, but by Steibel.
Preisig, who works at the AHV branch in Herisau, was already able to get used to fast driving again in February during private test drives for the German team in Most. The ADAC TCR Germany will make its first stop at the Czech circuit at the end of April.
Jasmin Preisig: "It was special to put on my helmet again for the first time. After the accident, I didn't take it off myself... I did a lot of mental training to process the whole thing in my subconscious. So it wasn't a problem when I was driving. Even when I drove past the accident site for the first time at the second private test in Hockenheim, it only occurred to me afterwards."
Your greatest wish is an accident-free season 2018
For this reason, she is only looking ahead and looking forward to her second full season in the ADAC TCR Germany. At the tests in Oschersleben, where the season opener will take place on April 14/15, she was always in the midfield, just outside the top ten. This is also her goal.
Jasmin Preisig: "Since 25 to 30 cars are expected per race, rankings around P10 to 15 would be cool, so always in the points. At tracks like Hockenheim and Nürburgring, which I know best, I'm counting on the top ten."
Her best result to date is a tenth place, achieved on August 6, 2017, in the second race at the Nürburgring. After still feeling the after-effects of the accident on September 23, Jasmin has a different wish on the surface: "I just always want to reach the finish in one piece.
We wish her the same.
