In the 2017 winter session, the Federal Parliament approved the necessary credits. For the first time, the funds come from the National Roads and Agglomeration Transport Fund (NAF). DETEC has now approved the corresponding construction programs for 2018.
For Expansion and maintenance of the national roads in operation, Parliament has allocated CHF 1.454 billion. Thanks to the new financing solution through the NAF, investments in the expansion and maintenance of the national road network can be increased by around 20 percent this year compared to last year.
In 2018, the main work will start on the following important Conservation projects:
- A1 VD Villars-Ste-Croix - Cossonay (breakdown lane reuse)
- A1 ZH Zurich Unterstrass - Zurich East (Schwamendingen enclosure)
- A2 BS Basel east tangent
- A2 NW Achereggtunnel and Lopperviaduct
- A2 TI Heavy Traffic Control Center Giornico
- A2 TI Monte Ceneri - Bellinzona Sud
- A3 SG Murg - Walenstadt
- A9 VS Martigny and surroundings
On additional routes in 2018, the Main work continued. These include:

- A2 BL Schänzli
- A2 SO/BL Belchen rehabilitation tunnel

For projects under the program Bottleneck elimination a total of 175 million Swiss francs are available in 2018. These funds will mainly be invested in the six-lane expansion of the Zurich North Bypass (A1) (see video above).
For New buildings within the scope of network completion a total of 290 million Swiss francs are available. These funds also come from the National Roads and Agglomeration Transport Fund (NAF). In addition to the above-mentioned funds, Astra is investing around 380 million Swiss francs in the maintenance of the network - the so-called Operational maintenance. Operational maintenance includes, among other things, winter services, green maintenance, repair of accident damage and cleaning.
