The Santa Fe is to offer a comprehensive package of active safety and driving assistance systems, grouped under the term Hyundai Smart Sense. Included, for example, is the advanced cross-traffic alert system, which warns of approaching vehicles when a collision is imminent during rearward parking and can brake the vehicle independently.

Protection system also for the rear row of seats
Rear Occupant Alert is available for the first time worldwide in the new Santa Fe. The protection system, which is active when parking, has an ultrasonic sensor and detects movement in the rear seats. The driver is alerted visually and acoustically to people who are in the vehicle. In particularly high temperatures, for example, a warning signal can remind the driver that people or animals should not be left in the car.

The fourth-generation Santa Fe is 4.77 meters long and just under 1.90 meters wide. The exterior mirrors are mounted on the doors.
Safety Exit Assist locks the doors when a vehicle approaches from behind. This prevents accidents when the doors are open.
