Toyota: Proace now also with all-wheel drive
TOYOTA PROACE 4WD The Toyota popular with families as the Proace Verso and appreciated by businesses as the Proace Van can now be ordered with a selectable all-wheel drive. In addition to improved traction, the selectable all-wheel drive available on the 2.0 diesel engine with 150 hp and manual transmission brings another advantage that is likely to be particularly appreciated by commercial operators.
To cushion the extra weight that the 4×4 drive brings with it, the rear axle has been reinforced. The pleasant side effect: The maximum payload increases from 1130 to 1190 kg!
The modern all-wheel drive has three different driving modes. In "ECO mode", the transfer case disengages and the vehicle is driven only by the front wheels, which reduces consumption.
In "Auto 4WD mode," basically only the front wheels are in use. But as soon as the system registers a loss of grip, the viscous clutch in the transfer case automatically directs part of the torque to the rear axle.
With the optional 100% differential lock on the rear axle, the "R.Lock" mode can be activated for increased off-road capability.
The Proace Platform is a useful addition to the Proace model range. All kinds of special bodies can be built on the rear chassis. For example, a Proace can be transformed into a useful pickup truck.
Long 4×4 tradition
Toyota has a long tradition of building cars with all-wheel drive. As early as 1951, the original Land Cruiser conquered dunes, steppes and rough roads. The Hilux, introduced in 1968, is the world's best-selling 4×4 pickup. With the RAV4, Toyota even founded a new segment in automotive engineering in 1994, namely that of the now universally popular SUVs.
With the now presented Proace 4×4, Toyota closes a gap in their model range. In particular, many customers who appreciated the reliability of the Hiace 4×4 models now have an alternative within the brand.
