At the opening of the 9th Swiss Commercial Vehicle Show transport-CH on November 16, she was the real star: Miss Switzerland Lauriane Sallin, who touched the hearts of the guests with her story told at the opening. Namely, in the summer of 2016, when Lauriane visited the construction of a children's heart center in the Moroccan capital of Rabat, Miss Switzerland learned from the local doctors in Bern about the hurdles involved in transporting urgently needed material. "Actually, it would be easiest if someone could cart the stuff here in a truck," says Prof. Alexander Kadner, head of pediatric heart surgery at Inselspital, over dinner. The only problem is that no one on the team has a C driver's license, let alone the time to get one. "Yes, I do!" Lauriane interjects. Words are followed by deeds, and after an intensive course, she ventured to Morocco with her driving instructor Emerick Wicki in a donated 18-ton truck. The trip turned out to be the biggest challenge of her life. After six days of driving and several hurdles overcome, she arrived at the children's hospital in Rabat.
The plan was to sell the donated truck in Morocco and donate the money. But the bureaucracy made the import impossible and so Lauriane drove the truck back to Switzerland.
