Supercross: Josh Hill competes with electric bike
COMEBACK Josh Hill, the unfortunate hero who missed out on the crown in Geneva due to a crash in the 2009 final, will not only provide a spectacle at the 32nd Monster Energy Supercross Geneva on December 1 and 2, 2017, but will also make history. The motorcycle associations have given the green light: the American will be at the start of the 250 cm3 in Geneva on the handlebars of his Alta electric motorcycle, a first in Europe. Founded in Brisbane (California) in 2010, the manufacturer has 50 employees and sells its first two enduro and motocross machines.
Enough range and a top speed of 105 km/h
With his Alta Redshift MX, Josh Hill jumps over the washboard hills without making any noise. The electric motorcycle develops an output of 40 hp and is therefore equivalent to an explosion engine in the 250 cm3 category. Its weight of 118 kilos is hardly any heavier. The machine has a range of 30 minutes and reaches a maximum speed of 105 km/h.
A place on the podium is the goal
While the FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) is considering the introduction of a category for electric motorcycles, Josh Hill and his Alta are battling at the front of the race in Geneva and are even flirting with a podium finish. Josh Hill has already proven at the Red Bull Straight Rythm 2017 that he can take on the traditional 250 cm2.
