Ford's EcoSport compact SUV has undergone a comprehensive model update and is being launched with a new diesel engine, among other things.

According to the supplier, the comprehensively improved EcoSport will enrich the European growth segment of compact SUVs later this year with modern safety and assistance technologies, a fresh design and new options.

For the first time also with all-wheel drive
The new model will be available with front-wheel drive and, for the first time, also with all-wheel drive, which is available in combination with the newly developed "EcoBlue" turbodiesel engine. The four-cylinder, 1.5-liter engine produces 125 hp in the new EcoSport. Another new feature for the Ford EcoSport series is that it will also be launched for the first time in the sporty "ST-Line" equipment variant.

Successful series
Since the EcoSport was launched in Europe, Ford has sold over 150,000 units of this compact SUV in these markets. Last year, sales figures increased by 40 percent. The manufacturer has invested 200 million euros in the production facilities at its Craiova plant in Romania, where all the EcoSport units destined for Europe will roll off the production line.

More engines
With front-wheel drive, the compact SUV is powered by a 100 hp TDCi turbo diesel engine, also with a capacity of 1.5 liters. The new six-speed manual transmission is also used here. Two different output levels of the turbocharged gasoline engine with three cylinders and 1.0 liter displacement round off the drive range. They are available with 125 hp and 140 hp and are shifted as standard via a six-speed manual transmission. Ford also offers the 125-horsepower variant with a six-speed automatic including steering-wheel paddle shifters. An additional 100-hp gasoline version will join the model lineup in the middle of next year. Exact dates and prices have not yet been announced.
