Although far less well known, this vehicle had a huge impact on the automotive world - pioneering today's vans and pickups, including today's Ford Transit family of models.
100 years of tradition
When it was built exactly 100 years ago, the TT model was Ford's first single-ton commercial vehicle. At that time, customers had the option of equipping the factory-delivered chassis with appropriate bodies in order to transport whatever needed to be transported - from letters to gasoline drums.
Interesting also for Duttweiler
Probably one of the most prominent Swiss customers was Gottlieb Duttweiler. In 1925, he bought five of these Model TT delivery vans and had them converted into mobile sales outlets. Migros AG" was written in large letters on the body. The Ford Model TT was initially manufactured exclusively in the USA, but production was then extended to other international plants such as Manchester or (from 1926) to the first Ford plant in Germany in Berlin's Westhafen.
Current commercial vehicle variety
With the Transit family - Transit, Transit Custom, Transit Connect and Transit Courier - Ford today presents itself as a full-range supplier and offers a broad, independently developed van range in the commercial vehicle market. Further developments are geared to customer needs - including the plug-in hybrid version of the Ford Transit Custom announced for 2019.
