The Opel Insignia "Active-Hood Pedestrian Safety System", the protruding hood for pedestrian protection, was an important component of the 5-star award in the Euro NCAP test.

In the currently published crash test results, Euro NCAP awarded the Insignia Grand Sport and the Insignia Sports Tourer the maximum possible five stars. The new Opel flagship achieved excellent scores across the board - in the protection of adult occupants and children as well as in pedestrian protection and in the safety assist category.

Active hood
The newly developed active hood, which raises in milliseconds in the event of a collision to increase the distance between the accident opponent and the engine block, thereby improving pedestrian protection, worked "reliably with pedestrians of different statures and at different speeds." In addition, the optimized automatic hazard braking system, which reacts to both pedestrians and other vehicles, "worked well," according to the test report.

Also for other models
The top marks awarded by Euro NCAP prove how effectively the individual safety components in the Insignia interlock. At Opel, however, safety-first does not only apply to our flagship. Our recently launched Crossland X and Grandland X series also feature, for example, a front collision warning system with automatic hazard braking and pedestrian detection," says Opel Sales Director Peter Küspert.

Useful helpers included
In addition, there are assistance systems that give the Insignia driver the best possible overview on all sides - such as the 360-degree camera available for the first time from Opel: It is based on four individual cameras - one on each side of the vehicle. The combined system provides a bird's-eye view all around, if desired, making parking maneuvers and low-speed maneuvering easier. The driver can keep an eye on everything via the IntelliLink screen in the center console.
