A total of 62 young and classic cars have registered for the first "RAID Young Raiders Challenge". This means that the event is completely booked up. The rally for young drivers (under 36 years) will take place on the weekend of May 13 and 14, 2017.
From Zurich to Bern
The start is at the AMAG Autowelt Zürich in Dübendorf. The finish line is in Toffen near Bern. Several trophies will be fought for: VW Cup, Team Cup, Blick Cup, TCS Trophy, Oldtimer Cup, Youngtimer Cup and Ladies' Cup. The special feature of this rally is not only the age of the drivers, which must be under 36 years, but also the requirement to maintain as constant a speed as possible. This is the first priority as an evaluation criterion. The only team that can win is the one that completes the various routes as precisely as possible in the given time. Special tests pose an additional challenge to the participants and count towards the overall ranking.
Numerous trophies to win
The chances of winning are high, as there are many trophies up for grabs: VW Cup, Team Cup, Blick Cup, TCS Trophy, Oldtimer Cup, Youngtimer Cup and Ladies' Cup, in which ten women's teams race against each other. Eleven Volkswagen brand vehicles are registered. The oldest VW is a Karmann Ghia 1500 from 1962, while the oldest vehicle across all brands is a Ford A from 1929 - a true "oldie" now 88 years old.
Real classics
At Volkswagen, of course, classics such as the Beetle and Golf cannot be missing. Among others, two Beetles from 1972 and 1973 are taking up the challenge. As many as six Golfs - including three Golf GTIs - are taking part. The oldest - a Golf LS - dates back to 1974. The "Volkswagen Switzerland" team with its three models Karmann, Beetle and Golf GTI represents a part of the brand history of Volkswagen. The VW partner Autoweibel Aarberg also provides its own team, consisting of two Golf GTI and the Golf LS. In addition, two new Golf R of the seventh and thus most current generation will be racing out of competition. However, these novelties are excluded from the classification.
Volkswagen as Presenting Partner
Whoever wins in the overall standings can look forward to a Golf from Wolfsburg, already known as a bestseller for 41 years, for one year. The winner of the first "RAID Young Raiders Challenge" will receive the latest Golf for free use for one year - sponsored by Volkswagen Switzerland.
